Building Description

These twin high-rises are considered legends in the history of Chicago high-rises and of modern architecture itself.   They are among the first tall buildings of Mies van der Rohe's lifelong meditation on structural clarity.   No other design by this world-famous architect had such an immediate or strong impact.   They are featured in every book on modern architecture and are among the best known of Chicago's post-World War II architecture.

In addition to the architectural significance of these buildings, they are also located in a highly desirable location - steps from the lakefront, Michigan Avenue, world-class shopping and restaurants.
